Maureen Mrizek has served in a variety of volunteer and leadership roles during the 2016 General and 2018 Mid Term elections. Additionally, she canvassed with Organizing for Action during President Obama’s 2012 campaign. Maureen is a strong supporter of Women’s Rights and Progressive causes. As Chair, she will be working to expand our outreach to include underserved and excluded populations. Her goal is to increase voter awareness of the Arapahoe County Democratic Party within our district. She will work to focus on issues of greatest concern to our voting base.
Martha Kern has been an active volunteer and strong advocate for the Arapahoe Democratic Party for many years. If there is a phone bank a Campaign Manager needs to establish, Martha is a “Go To” to get the word out and make it work.
In 2012 she served as a Neighborhood Team Lead in OFA for the Chambers and Hampden Rd. Corridor. Her efforts in this area helped deliver Arapahoe County for Barack Obama. Martha has been involved with HD41 for many years as a PCP. Her recent volunteer experience has included Andrew Romanoff for CD-6 in 2014, Morgan Carroll for CD6 in 2016, Rhonda Fields for SD 29 in 2016, both Obama Campaigns, and both Michael Bennet campaigns.
As Treasurer for HD41 , Martha would like to start a fundraising program by collecting donations at each of our meetings. She will seek a relationship with our County Treasurer, by working with Gail Pennington on directives. Her goal is to create and find ways for HD41 to build funds and help the treasury of the County Party.
1st Vice Chair
Kunle Taiwo is a 28-year resident of Aurora and a small business owner. He is a Principal with an Aurora Architecture firm. Kunle has been involved with the Arapahoe Democratic Party as a PCP since the Al Gore Presidential campaign in 2000. He has also served as HD41 second vice chair. As a Democrat in Aurora, he has helped bring on the change of the city from majority Republican to majority Democrat. Kunle wants us as Arapahoe Democrats to continue to expand our values and our voting base throughout the County, as we head into the future.
Kunle notes, “We don’t have to all think alike. But we have to unify around our core values found in our Democratic Party Platform. We need to continue to build on the strength of our party, which is based on our diversity and inclusion of people of all creeds, faith and ethnicity. Also, in the coming years our emphasis has to be to expand our millennial/young person base as active voting Democrats”.
2nd Vice Chair
Karlton Culig has lived in HD 41 for 23 years, and has been active with the Democratic Party for many of those years. He is currently PCP of Precinct 425, and has served in this role since 2014. He was also active in the 2012 Obama Campaign, serving both as a canvasser and neighborhood team lead. Since that time, he has helped numerous campaigns both for state candidates, as well as local.
Karlton is a Scientist, having worked at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Alternative Science. He also has taught, and is now a retired teacher. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War.
As the 2nd Vice Chair, Karlton looks forward to supporting the initiatives set forth by the HD 41 Board Members. His goal is to increase House District volunteer base for Candidates, as well as strengthen and further the momentum of the Peoples’ Blue Wave.
Cayenna Johnson has been working with refugee youth and families as an instructor, program coordinator, and conflict resolution specialist since 2005. Cayenna’s greatest skill is bringing people together to accomplish a common goal–a skill she harnessed while gaining her MA in Conflict Resolution at the University of Denver in 2012. Cayenna also volunteers as the Neighborhood Watch Area Coordinator of District 11 in Aurora, Board Member of the Aurora Open Space Commission, and Secretary of HD 41 of the Arapahoe County Dems. In her personal life, Cayenna a married mommy of 2, a political/comedy junkie, and loves taking adventure trips with kids & dog.
