Arapahoe County Assembly: Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Hinkley High School. Check in at 11 am, gavel at 12 noon
The Caucus/Assembly process is about ballot access: it is a way for candidates to get their names on a primary ballot.
Why do we have Caucus & Assembly?
Candidates save time and money reaching the primary ballot through Caucus & Assembly, reducing barriers to running for office.
Caucus & Assembly also let us build community and welcome new volunteers.
What is Caucus?
Caucus is a meeting of neighborhood Democrats to:
Elect two Precinct Organizers for each precinct
Elect Delegates to County Assembly, and
Recruit future Election Judges
More info on these positions below! ⬇️
What is County Assembly?
County Assembly is a meeting of delegates elected at Caucus who:
Add candidates to the June primary ballot, or
Elect delegates to a future assembly that will add candidates to the June primary ballot
Precinct Organizer (PO for short) -- An elected volunteer position.
What you'll do: Connect with Democrats and others in your own neighborhood. Help get out the vote for elections.
For how long: Two years, until the next caucus in March 2028. The position automatically ends if you move out of the precinct or change parties.
Requirements:
Be active with your local House District Democrats so you can meet and learn from fellow Precinct Organizers and other volunteers.
Pass out election literature in your precinct this fall (it's ok to recruit helpers).
Take part in occasional required votes.
What else to know:
It's flexible! You decide how and when to do precinct organizing.
On your own time, when you're not "wearing your PO hat," you can help your favorite candidates in a Democratic primary, if that's something you want to do.
To run for Precinct Organizer, use this Caucus sign up. See also our Precinct Organizer page.
Delegate -- An elected volunteer position.
What you'll do: Cast votes to put Democratic candidates onto the primary ballot.
For how long: Until all the Assemblies that you were elected a Delegate for have finished.
Arapahoe County: March 7, in Aurora.
State: March 28, in Pueblo.
Other Assemblies: Mar 26- Apr 11, on Zoom. See https://www.coloradodems.org/caucus/multi-county
Requirements: Commit to attend each Assembly that you are a Delegate for. ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL -- your candidates need their Delegates and your Party needs to meet attendance minimums before putting anyone on the ballot.
What else to know:
Candidates will be trying to earn your vote, so expect phone calls and emails.
In-person Assemblies will have a lot of people.
Assemblies can be both exciting and boring at the same time. It's exciting to be together with other Democrats supporting a variety of candidates. Yet there are lots of rules and procedures to follow. Patience will be helpful!
To run for Delegate, use this Caucus sign up. If you want to be a State or a Multi-County District Delegate, you must first be elected as a County Delegate.
Election Judges represent their Party in temporary paid jobs for the County government. If you check "yes" for Election Judge on our caucus sign up form, the Arapahoe County Democratic Party will send your name and contact information to the Arapahoe County Elections Division, part of the county government.
You can read about the different Election Judge jobs at https://www.arapahoeco.gov/your_county/arapahoevotes/get_involved/become_an_election_judge.php. You can also apply directly on that website.
