Limit non-Caucus internet use. You can sit together on the Zoom with others, if you tell your Caucus chair the name of each person joining the Zoom with you!
Join the meeting promptly!
Be patient. Your local volunteers are doing everything humanly possible to get you into Caucus.Â
6:00 - 7:00 pm: Check-in. Use only your own personal Zoom link to join the meeting.Â
You will be sent to a House District (HD) breakout. This may take several minutes, possibly more during the busiest moments, as the volunteers are checking their lists and matching voters to HDs.Â
If you are invited to the "Find My HD" breakout, join that breakout so a specialized volunteer can find the right HD for you. (This is more likely if you are a Caucus Guest, minor, or a confidential voter.)
In your HD breakout: The meeting will not start till at least 7:00 pm. If you know how to "rename" yourself, you can add your precinct number to your Zoom name.
7:00 pm - 8:00/9:00 pm (estimate): The Caucus meeting should begin at 7 or shortly after. Mute yourself. The HD Caucus Chair will lead the meeting. Listen.
Volunteers will put ballot links into the chat. Eligible Caucus voters will have a few minutes to fill out each ballot. Caucus Guests, this will be break time for you.
Here is a practice ballot. You can look up your precinct number here.
At the bottom of your ballot, there is a button to submit your vote. Click that button for your vote to be counted!
After all Caucus business is finished, there may be other discussion or meet & greet time. Or there may not. Each HD Caucus Chair will decide the post-meeting plan for that HD's breakout.
ACDP volunteers will review the Caucus ballots and verify the results.Â
County Delegates will be confirmed first. Every confirmed elected County Delegate -- and ONLY confirmed elected County Delegates --Â will receive an OFFICIAL CALL to the March 7 County Assembly by email. A provisional copy of the call is posted here for planning purposes.
At County Assembly on March 7, County Delegates will have the chance to run for State and Multicounty Delegate positions.
Precinct Organizers (PO) will be confirmed later, possibly after March 7. Whether you are a PO candidate or not, you're encouraged to find your House District (HD) meetings on our calendar.
Election Judges are recruited at Caucus but not elected. ACDP volunteers will send the Arapahoe County Elections Division a list of registered Democrats who signed up for election judge. Elections Division staff will use that information to hire election judges. Anyone interested in being hired as an election judge can also read more and apply at https://www.arapahoeco.gov/your_county/arapahoevotes/get_involved/become_an_election_judge.php
When: Saturday March 7. Check-in begins at 11 am. Gavel (the official start) is at 12 noon.
Where: Hinkley High School, 1250 Chambers Rd, Aurora 80011
What: County Assembly is a series of meetings. Rules and instructions will be given, votes will be taken, candidates will have some speeches. Candidates will also have tables and you are encouraged to visit them
How long: The whole afternoon. Have a good healthy brunch or early lunch first.
Each County Delegate must attend a separate meeting for each district level:Â
County as a Whole
Congressional Districts
House Districts
County Commissioner DistrictsÂ
Senate Districts -- only for SDs 21, 27, 29, 32.
The County as a Whole meeting will be longest, an hour to an hour and half. There will be a passing period between meetings. Most Delegates will change rooms at least once.Â
What to bring:Â
A fully charged smartphone and charger, or other wifi-capable device.Â
Snacks or a lunch for later in the day.Â
A refillable water bottle.Â
Any personal items you would need for an afternoon away from home.Â
If you are carrying another Delegate's proxy, make sure you have that Delegate's email address correctly saved or written down -- you will need that for the proxy ballots.
What to do after check-in: Candidates will have tables in nearby areas. Go explore! After you've chatted with some candidates, come to the auditorium by noon.
People who run for a County Delegate position should commit to attending the County Assembly. That is the entire purpose of a County Delegate. But life happens. If a County Delegate is unable to go to the County Assembly, they will be allowed to vote by proxy. This means another registered Democrat living in Arapahoe County can attend the assembly in their place and cast votes for them.
One person may carry only one proxy.
Each County Delegate who needs a proxy is responsible forÂ
finding a registered Democrat in Arapahoe County willing to carry the proxy
getting that person's permission and making sure they can attend the County Assembly
designating the proxy on the official proxy designation form*
giving the proxy carrier the Delegate's email address, and any voting instructions, to enter on County Assembly ballots
A good proxy carrier will:
live in the same local districts as the County Delegate (or at least the same House District)
be comfortable filling out online ballots and bring a phone or other device to vote on
be prepared to attend every district breakout (as described in the section above)
*The proxy designation form will be sent to all the County Delegates, after they have been confirmed elected at Caucus.Â
